Learning Objectives, Form, Scope, Content and Target Audience

Over two days, this course introduces the basic principles of soft tissue surgery and their application in common rodent species. 

The participants will learn:

- the basic principles of surgery with special focus on asepsis

- incision and suture techniques

- minor and major procedures (i.e. placement of subcutaneous implant and laparotomy in mice)

- strategies and considerations to plan a successful surgical protocol

 

In a small group, lectures are introducing the topics immediately followed up by practical training on mice or rat cadavers.

 

This course is intended for scientist without previous knowledge or skills in surgical techniques.

Criteria for the Participation

This course is organized for persons who completed the basic education in laboratory animal science and aimed at scientists involved in surgery in their animal experimentation.

Accreditation and Recognition

This course is recommended for recognition as two days continuing education in Switzerland by the Federation of Swiss Cantonal Veterinary Officers (VSKT).

Course Fees

Universities in Switzerland: CHF: 500.-
Industry, external person and institutions from abroad: CHF 760.-

Please note that we will charge you the full fees in case of a late cancellation of the course (within 3 weeks before start of the course) or in case of absence. It is the responsibility of the participant to inform the organizer of the course about the cancellation before the deadline of 3 weeks before the course to avoid the billing of the course. To charge for cancellations is common practice by other providers, too. The new proceedings for education courses became necessary due to an increasing extent of short term cancellations in training modules.
